Elisha's Servant - Gehazi

A Man Named Gehazi

God knew you would make a mistake before you made it. He’s not surprised by your actions – you are.

Romans 3:10-12 says, “…There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one”.

Do you think you’re discarded out of God’s love and calling for your life because of your mistakes? No. Romans 29:11 says, “for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” The Lord still has his original vision for your life. How do I know? By a man named Gehazi.

2 Kings 5:1 describes a man named Gehazi. Gehazi was the personal servant to Elisha. He served Elisha and was witness to all the miraculous works that God did through Elisha. It must have been an amazing sight to see.

In 2 Kings 5:1-27, Naaman was the commander of the army of the king of Aram. But he had one major problem; he had leprosy. Naaman received prompting from those around him to seek out Elisha for healing. Naaman found Elisha and followed his instructions faithfully. When he did, he was miraculously healed of leprosy. What an amazing miracle! And Gehazi had the Birdseye view of the entire event!

Naaman was so elated about his healing that he offered gifts to Elisha. But Elisha refused to receive any gifts from Naaman. In 2 Kings 5:18, Naaman confessed to Elisha that he worshiped other gods and asked for forgiveness for his sins. Elisha gave Naaman forgiveness(2 King 5:19). However, Gehazi was not pleased with Naaman. When Naaman left Elisha, Gehazi ran after him. He told Naaman that Elisha changed his mind and wanted the gifts he offered. Naaman willingly gave Gehazi the gifts and Gehazi hid the gifts in his house. God revealed to Elisha what Gehazi did and spoke a judgment that the leprosy that was on Naaman is now upon Gehazi and his descendants forever. Gehazi left the presence of Elisha white as snow.

Servant of the Man of God

Gehazi's Calling Restored

Gehazi’s story didn’t end with a curse, it ended with a blessing. In 2 Kings 8:4, A woman who left her land for 7 years returned to her land and asked to be restored. Gehazi spoke to the king on her behalf. Not only was the woman restored the land, the money, and all she lost, but Gehazi was restored his calling and dignity! How’s that? 2 Kings 8:4 says, “The king was talking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, and said, ‘Tell me about all the great things Elisha has done.”

Wait! Gehazi was speaking to the king face to face? Wasn’t he put outside the camp because of his leprosy? Better yet, he’s still called "the servant of the man of God"! Which means he did not lose his place of authority, influence, or calling? God still used Gehazi in spite of his mistakes!

The woman was restored because Gehazi walked in his anointing and calling. The dream that God had for him did not crumble with his fall. In fact, his calling was fulfilled in spite of his sins.
